Simultaneous Exposure to Angiostrongylus vasorum and Vector-Borne Pathogens in Dogs from Italy

چکیده
Several drivers have recently fostered the expansion of Angiostrongylus vasorum throughout Europe, where Vector-Borne Pathogens (VBPs) are also spreading. However, level simultaneous risk infection is still unknown in canine populations. This study evaluated exposure to A. and major VBPs dogs Italy. Sera 294 were subjected two ELISAs, detecting circulating antigens antibodies against parasite, following assays: (i) SNAP® 4DX (IDEXX Laboratories Inc.) Dirofilaria immitis antigens, vs. Borrelia burgdorferi, Anaplasma spp. Ehrlichia (ii) IFAT for detection Leishmania infantum, Babesia canis Rickettsia conorii. Twenty-two (7.5%, CI: 4.8–11.1%) six (2%, 0.7–4.4%) scored positive respectively. Seventeen (5.8%, 3.4–9.1%) + at least one VBP, three (1%, 0.2–3%) antigen while dog (0.3%, 0.01–1.88%) was B. antibodies. These results show that living different regions Italy infections with both VBPs. Despite same scenario being likely other countries current knowledge scant. Therefore, further studies warranted amplify epizootiological information understand whether control programs should be improved.

Angiostrongylus vasorum in wolves in Italy☆
In the past decade, the parasitic nematode Angiostrongylus vasorum has attracted attention for its emergence in previously free areas and for the rise in clinical cases in domestic dogs. Italy is regarded as one of the countries where this potentially life-threatening parasite is spreading, especially due to bridging infections between wildlife and domestic dogs. The present article describes t...
متن کاملDetection of specific antibodies in dogs infected with Angiostrongylus vasorum.
Canine angiostrongylosis, caused by the nematode Angiostrongylus vasorum, is an emerging cardiopulmonary disease in Europe which can be fatal if left untreated. We determined the diagnostic value of the specific detection of antibodies against A. vasorum adult somatic antigen, adult excretory/secretory (E/S) antigen and first stage larvae (L1) somatic antigen in ELISAs. Also, A. vasorum adult s...
متن کاملA serological study of exposure to arthropod-borne pathogens in dogs from northeastern Spain.
There is limited information regarding the prevalence of many vector borne pathogens in Europe and especially in Spanish dogs. We investigated 206 sick and 260 clinically healthy dogs from three different regions in northeastern Spain for antibodies to Rickettsia conorii (Rc), Ehrlichia canis (Ec), Anaplasma phagocytophilum (Ap), Bartonella henselae (Bh), Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii (...
متن کاملFirst report of Angiostrongylus vasorum in a wild red fox (Vulpes vulpes) from Apulia (Italy).
Severe lung strongylosis was detected in a wild red fox (Vulpes vulpes) (1/12) from Apulia (Italy). We performed routine diagnostics on 12 foxes found dead in Apulia. Eleven of them showed lesions consistent with a vehicle collision. However, the remaining fox appeared to have died from other causes. At necropsy we observed, catarrhal enteritis, fatty liver, lung congestion with some areas rm i...
متن کاملPrevalence of tick borne pathogens in horses from Italy.
In order to investigate the prevalence of tick-borne diseases, equine piroplasmosis, equine granulocytic anaplasmosis and Lyme borreliosis in Central Italy, blood samples from 300 horses were analyzed for the presence of antibodies against Babesia caballi, Theileria equi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Borrelia burgdorferi using the IFAT. The blood samples were also subjected to PCR assays in or...
